Jubail Travel Tips: What to Know Before You Go

Most leisure visitors reach Jubail on Saudi Arabia's tourist eVisa, which you apply for on the official Visit Saudi portal. Pack loose clothes that cover shoulders and knees. In Ramadan, keep food and drink out of public view during daylight. Budget in Saudi riyals, and plan on a car, taxi or ride-hailing app to get around.

Is it safe to travel to Jubail right now?

Check your own government's advice first, because the regional picture changed in 2026. On 7 October 2026 the Australian government advised travellers to reconsider their need to travel to Saudi Arabia overall, citing the security situation in the country and the wider region (Source: Smartraveller, updated 7 October 2026).

The UK government reports that since 13 July, Houthi forces in Yemen have launched missiles and drones at several locations in Saudi Arabia. It names airports, military bases, ports and energy infrastructure across the country as facing a heightened threat, and it advises following Saudi Civil Defense alerts (Source: FCDO, page updated 6 October 2026). Jubail Industrial City holds the King Fahd Industrial Port and a large petrochemical complex (Source: Saudipedia), so read that advice closely.

If your government's advice allows the trip, Jubail rewards an easy pace: seafront walks, quiet parks and boat trips from the marina. Sign up for your embassy's travel alerts and keep your airline's app on, since airspace can close at short notice.

How do I get a Saudi tourist visa for Jubail?

Apply for the tourist eVisa on the official portal, visa.visitsaudi.com. The portal describes a one-year, multiple-entry visa that allows up to 90 days in the country, for tourism, events, family visits and Umrah outside Hajj; studying is excluded (Source: Saudi eVisa portal, accessed October 2026). The UK government adds that the 90 days count in total across the 365-day validity, and that you can also apply on arrival at Saudi international airports (Source: FCDO).

Your passport needs at least six months of validity on arrival, according to the FCDO. If your country is not on the eligible list, the portal tells you to contact the nearest Saudi embassy. As guidance, apply through the official portal itself rather than an intermediary site.

What should I wear in Jubail?

Dress modestly and comfortably: loose layers that cover your shoulders and knees work for both men and women. The UK advice specifies clothing that covers the elbows and reaches below the knee, and says female visitors do not have to wear an abaya or cover their hair (Source: FCDO). Australia's advice adds: avoid tight-fitting clothes and clothes with profane language or images (Source: Smartraveller, October 2026).

The Saudi Tourism Authority's public decency list sets fines for wearing underwear or sleepwear in public and for clothing with profane or offensive slogans or images (Source: Violations to Public Decency and Penalties, 2019). A light scarf in your bag covers a mosque visit.

What changes in Jubail during Ramadan?

Ramadan shifts the city's rhythm toward the evening. During daytime fasting hours, the UK advises visitors not to eat, drink, smoke or chew gum in public, including in a car, and to avoid loud music and dancing in public (Source: FCDO). Ramadan follows the Islamic lunar calendar, so its dates move each year; in 2026 it began in Saudi Arabia on 18 February, according to the FCDO.

Plan big meals for after sunset and keep a bottle of water for private spaces such as your hotel room.

Is alcohol allowed in Jubail?

No. Buying, selling, importing, carrying and drinking alcohol is illegal in Saudi Arabia (Source: Smartraveller), and the UK advises not to bring alcohol into the country or arrive under its influence (Source: FCDO). Drug offences carry severe penalties; the UK describes zero tolerance. Evenings in Jubail centre on the seafront instead: the Al Fanateer Corniche has restaurants and shops facing the water (Source: Aramco Life, 2021), and the shoreline parks suit an evening walk once the heat drops.

What money do I need in Jubail?

You pay in Saudi riyals (SAR). The Saudi Central Bank holds the riyal at an official rate of 3.75 to the US dollar (Source: SAMA statement, May 2020). King Fahd International Airport lists ATMs and banking among its arrival facilities (Source: KFIA website, October 2026). As guidance, carry a payment card plus some cash for small purchases.

How do I get around Jubail?

Plan on a car, a taxi or a ride-hailing app. Jubail has two distinct districts: the old town, Jubail Balad, and Jubail Industrial City to the north, about 23 km apart by road from the old town centre to the Al Fanateer seafront (OSRM routing on OpenStreetMap data, October 2026). The difference between the two is explained on Jubail facts.

From King Fahd International Airport, the official airport site gives 93.4 km and about 60 minutes to Jubail, and lists taxi, ride share, car rental and shuttle bus options. Full details are on Airport to Jubail transport.

If you plan to drive, the UK says a UK photocard licence is valid for the first three months, though rental firms may ask for an international driving permit. The same advice warns of poor driving standards and a high number of serious accidents (Source: FCDO). Do not photograph government buildings, military sites or palaces; the FCDO says this is illegal.

Save the Jubail emergency numbers on your phone before you arrive.
